Metal Stamping of an Aluminum Ring for the Aerospace Industry
Serra Manufacturing Corporation completed this precision aluminum stamping project for a customer in the aerospace industry. Composed of .063" thick 2024-T3 aluminum, the ring required dimensional tolerances of ±.003". After the blank was stamped, the ring was counterbored, fastener holes were countersunk, and an edge radius was machined on the outer diameter of the ring.
The ring was covered with BAC 452 green corrosion inhibiting epoxy primer with a thickness between .0003" and .0008". It is in accordance with Boeing's BAC 5736 specification for application of solvent resistant finishes. A coat of flat brown BMS 10-60 polyurethane enamel was applied to the face and edges of the ring before the entire ring was coated with chem film.
We produce ten of these rings per order according to our customer's forecast and delivery schedule. This project demonstrates our ability to manufacture specialty items requiring multiple machining and finishing steps.
